Malaysia is a federation of thirteen states and three federal territories in Southeast Asia, with a total land area of around 127,360 sq km and a population of around 27 million. Malaysia shares borders with Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and the Philippines.
Malaysia is separated into two regions, Peninsula Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo. The two parts are separated by the South China Sea and feature similar terrain of coastal plains rising to densely forested hills and mountains. The climate is equatorial and has annual southwest monsoons in April to October and northeast monsoons from October to February.
